Aircraft Selection
Can I fly a different aircraft than what's on my OFP?
No, you must fly the aircraft specified on your Operations Flight Plan. However, you can change the aircraft during dispatch before generating the OFP.
Can I change my booked flight's default aircraft?
Yes, you may switch to any available aircraft in dispatch that can safely perform the flight, considering range, size, and limitations.
System Requirements
Is Windows 7 supported?
No, as Microsoft ended support in January 2020, critical libraries have become outdated.
Is MacOS/Linux supported?
Yes.
Is Microsoft Flight Simulator supported?
Yes! Both Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 are fully supported. Some minor limitations may apply with specific aircraft or features, but MSFS pilots are welcome and flying successfully with SWISS Virtual.
Flight Operations
Is online flying on VATSIM/IVAO required?
No, though all flights are evaluated assuming online operation.
Can I fly whenever I want?
Partially - you may start within plus or minus 6 hours of your booking departure time.
Is there a flight limit?
No flight limits exist.
Can I leave mid-flight?
Yes, if disconnected from VATSIM/IVAO and in cruise phase.
What time zone applies?
All times are in UTC. Please note that all PIREPs are reviewed against real-world time, regardless of the time set in your simulator.
Membership Requirements
Do I need to fly monthly?
No, but inactive status applies after one month; after 365 days inactive, membership may terminate.
Is there an age restriction?
Yes - under 18 requires parental consent; under 13 are not accepted.
Do I need aviation knowledge?
Yes, equivalent to VATSIM ATPL or IVAO ATP certification level.
What English level is required?
Minimum B1 level.
Do I live outside Switzerland - can I join?
Yes, absolutely. SWISS Virtual welcomes members from around the world.
Must I pay anything?
No, all services are free, though donations are welcomed.
Routes & Schedule
Can I fly any routes I choose?
No, only routes matching the real SWISS schedule are available.
Do I need the latest AIRAC?
Yes, current AIRAC version is required for all flights.
Support & Employment
Where is support available?
Official support is at support.swiss-virtual.com; community help via Discord.
Can I be an ATC controller?
No, SWISS Virtual simulates pilot operations only.
How do I work for SWISS Virtual?

Does SWISS Virtual host real-world events?
Yes, though currently postponed due to COVID-19.

Yes. Pilots receive access to extensive documentation and resources covering procedures, aircraft systems, and operations.
